Melvin Boyd Pendland
Georgetown, Texas
I've been married for 38 wonderful years to Janet Thatcher Pendland. We have three children; Melissa Butler (37), Kevin Pendland (34), and Amy Thomas (28). They have blessed us with six beautiful grandchildren.
I attended Texas Christian University (Roger Bryant was my roomate for the first two years),and graduated in 1971. I worked for the cities of Ft. Worth, Texas and Des Moines, Iowa as a Planner and Director of Research and Development until 1973, when we moved back to Palestine to begin a 21 year career with Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. We moved to UP headquarters in 1983, where I served in a a number of senior management positions prior to leaving UP in 1994 and moving to Georgetown, Texas.
As a partner in the Capitol City Group (a management consulting company) I consulted with clients on the privatization of the Mexican Railway System. I missed our last reunion while managing the transition of operations to new ownership in 1997.
For the past eight years, I have served as president of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. Janet and I enjoy golf, travel, and community involvement. We are very active in Berry Creek Country Club and in local charities, especially the Nathan Chapman Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships for the children of members of our armed forces who are killed or totally disabled as a result of the service to our country.
We have never been happier or more grateful. Retirement is a possibility in a few years, but I enjoy my work so much that I am in no hurry to stop working.
